I’m a bit of a strange character. I edit video, sew costumes, work on cars and write novels. In fact, I’ve been writing stories since 6th grade. Maybe “The Witches from Planet Zebtron” wouldn’t really qualify, but I did write it in 6th grade. Publication didn’t happen until I started writing under the pen name Ashleigh Raine with my best friend in 2003. Since then, we’ve written some novels and now I’ve written some novels by myself, too. (See my website.)
That’s why Blue Root landed here. It was my first solo novel. In my critique group, this was one of very few that got talked about even a year after I’d run the first few chapters through. I kept hearing “What ever happened to Blue Root?” or “Did Blue Root get published yet?” and I always sighed and grimaced.
Apparently, it’s too darn weird. There’s just no place for a comedic erotic science fiction romance novel. Lots of agents and editors have looked at it and the comments returned are all over the map. From “this is crap” to “I LOVE this book, but I can’t accept it.”
Whatever. It’s here now because even years later, I still love it and I hope you will, too.
